Cal Tech seismologists agreed that they reported that Sonic Booms were the most likely cause when an earthquake-like tremor was felt, but no subsurface activity.

In Laguna Beach, more than 100 residents reported feeling shaken on the Laguna Locals Facebook page. The general consensus was that the event looked more like an explosion than a conventional earthquake.

Those who had experience with sonic explosions were inclined in this direction. Residents said windows and doors shook during both incidents.

Camp Pendleton reported a noise warning this week as they fire “high explosive munitions” in the Quebec and Zulu portion of the base, which can be felt in the northwest of the base.

Although it was originally believed to be the likely source of the accident, Camp Pendleton says no training took place on Monday morning. All indications are now that the sonic boom is the source of the vibration.
