Uhuru Resists Earthquake Coalition in Special Meeting of State Houses

President Uhuru Kenyatta held a meeting with a section of Western Kenya’s leaders at State House, Nairobi, in what is seen as a move to counter the earthquake coalition launched by Amani National Congress Party leader, Musalia Mudavadi, on Sunday.

The president hosted leaders from western Kenya, on Tuesday, January 25, in a move largely seen as a way to counter the influence of Vice President William Ruto in the region.

It is worth mentioning that the President met with the delegation of Western Kenya led by the Cabinet Secretary Plenipotentiary, Eugene Wamalwa, where he highlighted the development projects carried out by his administration in the region.

He assured the leaders of the government’s commitment to ensuring that all ongoing development projects in the region were completed as scheduled.

During the meeting attended by CS Wamalwa and Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati (Bungoma), Wilbur Ottichillo (Vihiga) and Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia), the leaders thanked the President for his commitment to the region.

Furthermore, they thanked the President for the various development projects which they noted have changed the lives and well-being of the people of Western Kenya.

“The leaders especially thanked President Kenyatta for his timely intervention which led to the revocation of the Chitambe Hills Gazette as a national forest reserve,” said a statement from State Council Spokesperson Kanzi Dina, read in part.

“The July 2021 OJ implementation of 406 acres of heavily settled land would have resulted in the displacement of over 10,000 Maraka and Mihuu Wards in Webuye East Constituency, Bungoma County.”

Political critics see the meeting as a move by Uhuru to mobilize leaders to support the Azimio La Umoja movement in the wake of the alliance between Mudavadi and DP Ruto.

After Mudavadi and Kenya’s Ford leader Moses Wetangula agreed to work with the vice president, the trio announced joint campaigns that would kick off in Nakuru.

“We had an in-depth discussion with my brothers and we agreed that Kenya is greater than any of us. We will make all the sacrifices we need to cement Kenya and take it to the next level.

“We are also very clear that this will take the hand of God and the people of Kenya. We will be going on this journey with many Kenyans.
