Message from the chairman of the board

After many foundations – convening, collaborating and uniting in support of the program to ensure that the needs of women, children and adolescents remain central to universal health coverage (UHC) – in 2019 we made significant progress. The resolutions at the World Health Assembly and the United Nations General Assembly and the decisive steps taken by the Inter-Parliamentary Union to ensure measures to achieve the UHC, especially for women, children and adolescents, were significant milestones on the UHC’s ambitious goal. It also reinforced our view that when we unite with one strong voice, we hear each other!

Achieving UHC involves investing in primary health care to address health inequalities and provide services at the community level. Women, children and adolescents are lagging behind in so many places. The growing evidence base suggests that integrating maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent services into primary health care — often provided by community health workers — is a very effective strategy for reducing maternal and neonatal deaths.

PMNCH’s reason for advocacy is advocating for the prevention of women, children, and adolescents in unfinished programs to achieve UHC and prevent preventable maternal and neonatal death. Addressing these unfinished agenda plans requires holistic approaches that go beyond the medical sector.

We all want a better world for women, children and adolescents. As we develop our new 2021-2025 Strategy. And deciding where we want to position PMNCH in the next five years, my Vice Presidents and I encourage you to boldly and innovatively devise how best to advance the global program for women, children and adolescents and thus advance the Sustainable Development Goals and vision of UHC.
