4.7-magnitude earthquake shakes West Texas – NBC5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck rural areas of western Texas early Thursday morning, the US Geological Service reports.

The USGS said the quake, which was initially reported as a magnitude 4.3 and later upgraded to a magnitude of 4.7, was registered at about 4:30 a.m. 10 miles northeast of Hermley and 15 miles east of Snyder, along the border of the two counties. Scurry and Fisher. .

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said Houston Air Force Control has received reports from plane pilots who reported seeing a meteor in the sky west of the McAllen Mission area.

In November, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit West Texas and damaged buildings as far away as San Antonio. It was the third largest earthquake ever to hit the state.
