Nile Dam: Satellite images show rising water levels – BBC News
Discussions over the Ethiopian dam have ended without an agreement. Egypt and Sudan fear they will cut off water supplies and say Ethiopia will provide millions of electricity. #BBCOS #BBCOutsidesSource New satellite images show rising water levels in the reservoir of the large Ethiopian Renaissance dam built on the Nile River. The $ 5 billion (£ 3.9bn) hydroelectric project is at the heart of the conflict between Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan. Talks to end the decade’s queue ended on Monday with major technical concerns raised by Egypt and Sudan. From June 27 to July 12, the amount of water stored in the dam by new satellite images has risen steadily. It is not clear whether work on the dam has facilitated this, as the Ethiopian government has denied that it deliberately started filling the dam. Journalist Benjamin Strick, who has been monitoring satellite photos, says seasonal rains have increased the volume of the reservoir behind the dam. Subscribe HERE .
