Experts expect more aftershocks from the earthquake to occur in the New Jersey area over the next seven days

Nearly a dozen aftershocks occurred in New Jersey late Friday morning into Friday evening, ranging in magnitude from 1.8 to 4.0. Although they were concentrated in Hunterdon, Morris and Somerset counties, some of them sent shockwaves across the ground hundreds of miles away – causing dozens of homes and other buildings in several states to shake.

The 4.0-magnitude aftershock, which struck just before 6 p.m. Friday, was felt as far north as Connecticut, Massachusetts, as far south as Maryland and as far east as Eastern Long Island, New York, according to public reports filed with the U.S. Geological Center. reconnaissance.
