Violent protests in Belarus claim President Lukashenko’s election victory “underground” – BBC News
There have been clashes between protesters and riot police after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko claimed victory in the election. The main streets of the Minsk capital were closed and police used rubber bullets, tear gas and a water cannon to throw protesters. A state exit poll also claimed that the country’s authoritarian leaders won the general election by a wide margin. Political opponents have said widespread election fraud has spread. Alexander Lukashenko has been in power for 26 years. Coronavirus has been working against a wave of corruption by managing the pandemic, the economy and human rights.
