Hezbollah has confirmed the death of its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, after a series of heavy Israeli airstrikes in the Lebanese capital Beirut. Nasrallah, who had been out of public view for years for fear of being killed by Israel, was one of the most influential figures in the Middle East. Hezbollah's southern front commander Ali Karki and other Hezbollah military leaders were also killed in the attack on the southern Beirut neighborhood of Dahiyeh, the Israeli army said. Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah's death and vowed to continue its fight against Israel “in defense of Gaza and Palestine and Lebanon.” Iran, Hezbollah's main sponsor, declared five days of national mourning. Iran's Supreme Leader declared Nasrallah's death “will not be avenged” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country had “resolved the matter” over Nasrallah's death and described his assassination as a “historic turning point” that could reshape the region. US President Joe Biden said his death was “a measure of justice for the many victims” and Kamala Harris described Nasrallah as a “terrorist” with bleeding hands.
