A dangerous earthquake in drilling drilling in Texas Oil oil fields

A 5.0 -size earthquake was hit near Toyah, Texas, a small town of 190 miles east of El Paso, on Friday, February 14, 2025 (Figure 1). The earthquake poetry along the way to the bouquerk. The earthquake depth was 6.6 km or 4.1 miles. In December 2023, the Texas Rail Committee (RRC), which organizes oil and gas production in that state, closed wells to get rid of deep salt water in the provinces of Reeves and Kulberson due to seismic activity, but this did not prevent this M5 earthquake.

How dangerous is the M5 earthquake
As a rule:
M = 3 can be felt on the surface of the earth. M = 4 cups fall on the shelves, the cracks are formed in the walls. M = 5 simple structural damage, falling the chimneys. M = 6 serious structural damage, houses collapse. M = 7 people trapped under the rubble, lost lives. M = 8 large -scale disaster.

Usgs/Palmer is other large earthquakes in Texas
A list of major earthquakes near Texas with M5 or larger. The strongest modern earthquake occurred in the past ten years in Texas on November 16, 2022 14:32 metric tons. Its size was 5.4 and hit 147 miles east of Lasso, at a depth of 4 miles. This earthquake occurred in the Culperson (Sra).
The table shows four M5 earthquakes that occurred in North Culberson Sra since 2020, including the last party in February 2025. This is a very wrong area, as previously discussed. Other M5 earthquakes occurred near Midland (Figure 2).

Palmer explains earthquakes
The acceptable explanation for earthquakes is to get rid of wastewater after breaking a well and when producing water with oil or gas. When drilling is intense (drilling exercises) as it was in Oklahoma in 2009-2016 and is now in the pelvic pelvis in West Texas and New Mexico, wastewater sizes become sufficient to urge earthquakes.
Sewer wastewater adopts the pressure that finds its way into an error or a pattern of breakdowns, and this can cause the error that urges the earthquake. In 2015, Oklahoma recorded nearly 900 earthquakes than M3, six times their number in California.
The largest Pawnee earthquake was M5.8. The damage was superficial due to the surface of the earth softening in that area. The full story of Oklahoma earthquakes are collected with fun details.
Organizers
The pelvic pelvis has witnessed a rapid increase in induced earthquakes since 2000, caused by increased disposal of wastewater with the spread of production wells. There are more than 20 deep injection wells in Colbson Province and Reeves Province at a depth of 11,000 – 16,000 feet (i.e. below the WOLFCAMP production area). Deep is the magic word because the deepest injection pushes sewage closer to severe rift that often occurs in the lower floors and can extend up.
The RRC Railways Committee is the organizer of the oil and gas industry in Texas. In the northern Colbson Rivs Sra (Figure 2), the organizers took the following measures (my comments in Caps):
December 9, 2022, the revised response plan
On November 16, 2022, a 5.4 -sized earthquake occurred inside the Northern Seismic Response area (NCR Sra). In response, RRC employees and well operators in Sra have taken additional measures to reduce the earthquake inside NCR Sra more quickly, including expanding the SRA range from 2366 to 2,601 square miles to include more disposal wells and adjust the response plan to increase the reduction of folder injections. The operators committed to meet the goal of the original deep disposal volume, which is 298,000 BBLS/three months early and to fulfill a new goal of 162,000 BBLS/day by June 30, 2023. This represents a 68 % decrease in the disposal volume compared to January 2022 before entered The plan is effective. Comment: These are somewhat radical procedures, but they failed to prevent the M5.2 earthquake that occurred in this field after only 12 months.
December 19, 2023 The procedure
From November 8 to December 17, 2023, the Texnet Seismology Program mentioned that seven (7) earthquakes occurred in Culberson and North Reeves provinces with sizes (M) from 5.2, 3.6, 4.0, 3.6, 3.8, 3.7, 3.9 (in the arrangement of occurrence ). These are the latest events in a continuous sequence of earthquakes that have occurred in this field over the past three years. RRC staff decided that injection into deep geological layers-bottom Wolfcamp formation, especially Devonian, Silurian, and Ellenburger-is likely to contribute to the last seismic activity in the North Seismic response area (NCR Sra). In response to the continuation of seismic into NCR Sra, RRC suspends all the wells of the well that injected oil and gas waste into deep layers inside the NCR Sra borders. This procedure applies to 23 deep disposal wells. The suspension of the permit is valid on January 12, 2024. Comment: These are very radical measures, but it failed to prevent the M5.0 earthquake that occurred in this field after about 12 months – on February 14, 2025.
Pipeline
There was damage caused by the M5 earthquake on February 14, 2025. The gas pipeline erupted in that particular evening. The emergency teams extinguished a fire in the next morning.
But this is not the first gas pipeline. The first was 19 months ago, and the second was 7 months ago. These two were only 300 yards, and in northern Colbson Sra (Figure 2). The second of these tears was July 15, 2024. Although it was not connected to any M5 earthquake, a video on Facebook appeared to appear as if it were a line of error on the nearby land.
They are the best regulations needed to control the drilling
These pipelines' failures, and the inability of RRC restrictions to stop the M5 earthquakes, disturb at least. In the worst case, earthquakes may reach M6 as they did almost in Oklahoma, and become a major threat to the population.
The positions differ on this threat. Oil and gas production in the therexual basin continues to increase the pits in drilling, which increases the capabilities of earthquakes caused by the disposal of wastewater. On the one hand, the M6 earthquake threatening cannot be ignored, nor can the damage of gas or oil pipes, or to the buildings, although West Texas was generally settled in general. Holtik will be the proposed nuclear waste site in New Mexico, not far from Carlspad, surrounded by hundreds of oil and gas wells, and may not be fortified from earthquake damage. However, the Court of Appeal in March 2024 evacuated the NRC license submitted to Holtec.
On the other hand, the oil and gas industry argues that regulations should balance damage with the economy and profit. Any restrictions on drilling or disposal procedures may have serious economic effects. This argument is weakened due to the profitable nature of the blind industry, as the equivalent oil and gas revenues in 1921 amounted to $ 24 billion annually – and based on reducing this situation in 2025.
An experience in the UK reveals a different place and different positions. In 2019, a company called Cuadrilla, which was completing a rock well in Lancashire, was banned by the government from all Wellsite activities because an earthquake of 2.9 was discovered. Such an earthquake has been considered unintended or insecure for the local population who settled extensively in the region, unlike the people who were louder in a degree living in the pump in West Texas.

Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
