SCRD stresses the emergency after an earthquake on Friday

After the earthquake on Friday, the Sunshine Coast Regional Region stressed the importance of preparing for the emergency.

On Friday, an earthquake witnessed a 5.1s on the mainland between Sechelt and Gibsons, which led to nearly 7,000 people feeling an earthquake.

The region said: “To help society understand the role of SCRD in events such as the earthquake, SCRD provides an insight into our response after Friday's earthquake.”

“Within minutes of the earthquake, the response concentration became the main SCRD management building because any emergency response will need coordination from this building. The building was evacuated, and the visual examination showed no structural problems.”

The province adds their emergency program coordinator through firefighting departments, police, emergency health services BC, BC Ferries, and local governments to obtain a situation report, followed by employees who make an emergency coordination call, and communicate with agencies such as Vancouver Coastal Health Center.

No major problems were reported after the earthquake.

In the event of another emergency, they recommend that there is a home plan, an emergency set and supplies to last at least a week.
