June sucker makes a comeback
A small fish native to Utah has been moved from the endangered species list to ‘threatened’ as of December 31, 2020. The June sucker lives only in Lake Utah and seasonally occupies its tributaries, including the Lower Provo River. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service announced a “listing” after efforts dating back to 2002 by the June Implementation Program for Sucker Water Restoration in Utah. The June sucker was placed on the endangered species list in 1986, after its numbers decreased to about 300 bleaching fish. Bob Nelson

Federal Assistance Available for Earthquake Repairs
Salt Lake County is now eligible to apply to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to repair and clean up infrastructure in the aftermath of the earthquake and aftershocks in March and April. In a joint statement, the Utah Department of Emergency Management and FEMA said the federal agency would cover at least 75% of the costs related to repairs to county facilities – with the state and Salt Lake County participating. According to the statement, the funds can be used to repair or rebuild public facilities such as roads, bridges, water control facilities, buildings and equipment, public facilities, parks and recreational facilities. Film festival organizers hope for a “holistic” experience
Instead of setting off in the snow this year, Sundance and Slamdance Film Festival attendees will be able to participate from the comfort of their homes. This year, all of them will take place almost entirely online, with viewers able to stream movies via their computers or directly to their televisions. However, organizers of both festivals say the new formats will allow for a more inclusive experience, allowing people to attend who may not be able to. Read the full story. John Reed

Seniors in the Utah Navajo receive the vaccine
Clinics in the Utah portion of Navajo Nation are vaccinating anyone over the age of 75 this week, after receiving additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer. About 150 people received their first dose on Monday in Montezuma Creek, according to a spokesperson for the Utah Navajo Health System. Barbara Whitehorse was there with her 83-year-old husband. “We feel a bit safe now that we get the shots. I no longer feel nervous about my husband.” The health system has about 250 shots left to give to Navajo Nation seniors, where the death rate from COVID-19 is five times higher than the rest of Utah. – Kate Grootzinger, Bluff

Reaching out to indigenous communities with vaccine information
Indigenous communities across the Mountain West have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. While many indigenous people are yearning to be vaccinated, tribal health officials said some are hesitant. In Wyoming, the Northern Arapahoe Tribe Medical Clinic launched a campaign on social media to dispel misinformation about vaccines. Other tribes, including the Navajo Nation, tried to instill confidence by having council members get the shot on camera. In Montana, Blackfeet Nation is using Blackfeet to share information about the safety and effectiveness of a vaccine. Savannah Maher, Mountain West News Office

One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
