Vice President Kamala Harris will be sworn in as his replacement
Kamala Harris has been on the Senate floor for the first time since becoming vice president and is sworn in by three senators: Georgians Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock and California replacement Alex Padilla Harris. The swearing in of three new senators will be a pioneer. Warnock and Ossoff will be the first black and Jewish senators to replace Georgia, and Padilla will be the first Latino senator in California. Ossoff, 33, will be the youngest senator in the chamber and the youngest Democrat since President Joe Biden has served in the Senate since he was sworn into the chamber in 1973 at the age of 30. After Warnock, the year Ossoff and Padilla were sworn in, the division of the Senate parties will be 50-50. Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer will become the first New Yorker to become the majority leader in the Senate and the first Jewish lawmaker. Harris will have the power to vote in the Senate as a decisive tie, the Biden administration will help confirm his appointments and give Democrats the keys to committees overseeing and drafting comprehensive legislation. #KamalaHarris #CNN #News.
