State TV said that a 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit southwest Iran near the town of Sisakht on Wednesday evening, and at least 10 people were injured.

“People in Sisakht and the town of Yasuj left their homes in panic. The water and electricity were cut off in Sisakht,” a local official in Kogiloye and Boyer Ahmed told TV.

“Rescue teams and ambulances have been sent to the area … so far, 10 people have been injured,” he added.

The official Iranian News Agency said that the earthquake felt by residents in several cities and towns in the region occurred at a depth of ten kilometers at 10:05 pm local time (1835 GMT).

“There were no reports of fatalities,” IRNA said.

Iran intersects with major geological fault lines and has suffered from several damaging earthquakes in recent years.
