The leader of the French National Front, Marine Le Pen, has defended his party from allegations of racism that it could not allow Andrew Marr to make such a claim. His father, Front National founder Jean-Marie Le Pen, called the Holocaust a “detail of history.” Mrs Le Pen said: “I do not think it is racist to say that we cannot afford all the poverty in the world. We cannot take care of the hundreds of thousands who come here. Our first duty is to protect the people of France.”
