Six injured in the Nepal earthquake

Kathmandu, May 19 (EFE). – Six people were injured and more than twenty homes were damaged when a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Lamjung district in western Nepal on Wednesday.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring and Research Center, the quake occurred at 5.42 am, with its epicenter in the rural municipality of Marchiangdi.

The monitoring agency said three aftershocks with magnitudes of 4.0, 4.1 and 5.3 occurred in the region.

Jagdish Mishra, District Executive, told EFE that five people were lightly injured. “There were no casualties.”

He said that someone jumped from the top of the two-story building and was in critical condition in the hospital. He pointed out that the earthquake destroyed 27 houses, and 12 of them were severely damaged.

According to the United Nations, Nepal is the eleventh most earthquake-prone country in the world.

On April 25, 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal and caused multi-storey buildings to fall in the capital, Kathmandu, and triggered landslides and avalanches in the mountains.
