Andhra Pradesh is celebrating Farmer’s Day on the birthday of former YS Prime Minister Rajasekhara Reddy and Jagan Mohan Reddy’s father. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, widely called YSR, was known to be a great mass leader.
Prime Minister Jagan Reddy paid tribute to his father on his 71st birthday today. “He (YS Rajasekhara Reddy) will live in people’s hearts through health schemes, 104, 108 ambulance services and farmers-friendly schemes,” Mr. Jagan Reddy wrote on Twitter. In 2019, Mr. Reddy had announced that July 8 each year would be observed as Farmer’s Day in the state.
As a tribute to YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday launched 412 new ambulances, replacing the older ones, under the ‘Dial 108’ emergency service, and also introduced 656 new mobile medical units. 108 and 104 services were introduced for the first time in the state by YS Rajasekhara Reddy, during his term as Prime Minister of Andhra Pradesh unified for the first time, from 2004 to 2009.
Prime Minister Jagan Reddy is in Kadapa to pay tribute to his father at YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya, the birthplace of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, according to a report in the Press Trust of India news agency. Mr. Reddy is also planning to inaugurate a new construction complex and lay the foundations of a solar project.

State Minister Botcha Satyanarayana said YS Rajasekhara Reddy created a “long transformative influence with various reforms … He will always be remembered and I would be small in people’s hearts.”

YS Rajasekhara Reddy was known to be the master of electoral politics and close to the people of his state. He had entered active politics in 1978 and was elected five times to the State Assembly and four times to Lok Sabha. He had never lost the election. YS Rajasekhara Reddy died in a helicopter crash on September 2, 2009.
