SNP to readmit MP Neale Hanvey after anti-Semitic investigation
Neale Hanvey was elected in the December general elections despite being suspended by the SNP in the middle of the campaign
A member who was suspended from the SNP during the election campaign for using anti-Semitic language on social media should be readmitted to the party.
Neale Hanvey was elected as Member of Parliament for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath despite her suspension from the SNP on election day.
He apologized "without reservation" for posting messages on social media which he said were "clearly unacceptable".
Mr. Hanvey will join the SNP group in May provided he completes an education course at a Holocaust center.
The decision of the party members' conduct committee is subject to appeal, and Mr. Hanvey has yet to comment.
The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities has declared education and engagement to be "absolutely vital".

Mr. Hanvey has served as an independent MP since the early elections in December, when he overthrew the shadow Scottish Labor Secretary despite members of the SNP urged not to campaign for him.
He was suspended from the party in the middle of the campaign after admitting to posting "deeply offensive" messages online, but it was too late for him to be replaced on the ballot.
He shared a Facebook post in 2016 that included an image of the billionaire George Soros as a puppet master controlling world leaders, and published another post that drew parallels between the treatment of Palestinians and the "unreasonable treatment" of Jews during the Second World War.
The former counselor apologized "unequivocally", saying that he wanted to "seek to repair these terrible errors of judgment with the Jewish community".
The SNP members' steering committee has now decided that Hanvey should be allowed to rejoin the party after a six-month suspension dated the day he was first suspended in November.
This should see him join party deputies in the Commons in late May – provided he completes an education course in a Holocaust center, meets the Scottish Jewish community and # 39; excuse.
The party said there was no room for anti-Semitism in the SNP or in society at large.
In a statement, the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities said the party had "demonstrated that it was able to dialogue with the Jewish community on these issues and was committed to taking disciplinary action".
He added: "It goes beyond the imposition of sanctions. Education is absolutely vital. Although Mr. Hanvey has apologized, meaningful commitment and education are essential to demonstrate that ; he understands the gravity of his actions and the impact of anti-Jewish racism on real people. "
