Washington COVID-19 Decrease in All Ages

Seattle (AP) — The Washington Department of Health states that cases of COVID-19 are declining in all age groups, including school-age children.

Seattle Times Report The promising trend revealed on Wednesday comes weeks after the state has passed the peak of infections caused by the delta mutation. And it said health and hospital authorities brought about the most infections and hospitalizations to date.

“We are seeing some signs of improvement, but the disease remains high across the state,” DOH’s COVID-19-compliant deputy secretary, Lacy Ferenbach, said at a news conference.

As of October 3, the state had a seven-day case rate of 234 infections per 100,000 people, according to Ferenbach. According to the DOH Coronavirus Data Dashboard, current infection rates are similar to those in early January, down from the peak of more than 300 per 100,000 people in early September.

Infection rates remain high in central and eastern Washington. The ferry, grant, criquitat, and garfield counties, which have the highest seven-day infection rates in the state, continue to report more than 300 infections per 100,000 people.

Hospitalizations have also declined in the past few weeks across the state. At the beginning of October, epidemiologists recorded a 7-day rate of 11 hospitalizations per 100,000 people — near where the state peaked last winter’s surge — DOH data show.

A total of 8,152 Washington citizens have died of the disease.

Vaccination rates continue to rise as the state’s October 18 immunization obligation approaches. More than 77% of the state’s eligible population has been vaccinated at least for the first time, and as of Sunday, 205,000 Washington citizens have received Pfizer booster shots.
