Rwanda adopts anti-epidemic robots to combat coronavirus :: WRAL.com
CNN — Rwanda introduced robots as part of its fight against the coronavirus.
As of May 22, 314 cases of virus have been confirmed, and the country of East Africa is fighting the virus with the cooperation of five antivirus robots.
The robot was donated by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to the Kanyinya Treatment Center, which treats Covid-19 patients in the capital Kigali.
The robots, named Akatsuka, Ikiregi, Mwiza, Ngabo and Ulmuri, were received by the State Health Minister and ICT Innovation Minister last week.
According to Rwanda’s Ministry of ICT Innovation, they will be used for body temperature screening, patient condition monitoring, and the preservation of medical records for Covid-19 patients.

Robots perform several tasks related to managing coronaviruses. They screen up to 150 people every minute for viral symptoms such as high temperatures and a dry cough.
According to Rwanda’s Minister of Health, Dr. Daniel Ngamier, they also have the ability to collect audio and visual data from patients, and can notify medical personnel if an abnormality is detected.

More than 90,000 healthcare professionals worldwide contact Covid-19 in the process of treating affected patients. In order to reduce these numbers, the Rwandan government wants its health care workers to have limited physical contact with patients under their care.

He added that they were programmed to communicate properly and could educate health care workers and patients on how to keep the virus dangerous and safe.

Rwanda is not the first country to use robots to control the spread of coronaviruses.
During the Tunisia blockade in April, police robots were deployed in a patrol area in the country’s capital, confirming that residents were monitoring the blockade.
They were controlled by a police officer who checked the resident’s ID wandering through the robot’s camera.
And in January, doctors used robots to treat the first person to get a coronavirus in the United States. A Seattle hospital robot was employed to check for male vitals, limiting contact with medical personnel.
