Increased access to COVID-19 antiviral treatment at Kawartha Lakes

Kawartha residents now have access to COVID-19 antiviral treatment, thanks to the Ontario Health Department’s efforts to work with the state and medical partners to assess more qualified patients and access medicines. It is expanding.

Health care providers may also determine whether antiviral treatment is appropriate for a patient based on their individual circumstances, even if the patient does not belong to one of the listed groups.

Anyone to be evaluated is now subject to PCR testing at any Ontario test center.

Ontario has also made it easier for qualified individuals with prescriptions to access antiviral drugs by expanding dispensing locations to include pharmacies that participate throughout the state. A list of pharmacies dispensing Paxlovid is available at Ontario.ca/antivirals. The list will be updated as the list of participating pharmacies grows.

In most cases, antiviral treatment should begin within 5 days of symptoms. People who are at high risk of serious illness and who think they have symptoms of COVID-19 should contact their GP or go to the COVID-19 Clinical Evaluation Center.
