Sore throat most common Covid symptoms, data suggest
Sore throat may be the biggest symptom suggesting that someone is infected with Covid-19, according to new data.
The next most common symptoms are headaches and stuffy nose, Zoecovid’s study suggests.
These numbers indicate that the next most common signs are coughing, hoarseness, sneezing, malaise, and muscle aches.
However, symptoms such as fever and loss of smell (formerly considered to be some of the most characteristic signs of the virus) were one of the least reported symptoms.
Professor Tim Spector, Zoe’s scientific co-founder and chief scientist for Zoe’s health research, said the virus was “still prevalent” in the population.
“Data from the Zoe Health Survey show that there were more than 350,000 Covid cases daily this week, a new record in the UK,” he said.
“If you have a cold-like symptom at this point, it can be nearly twice as much as a cold. Even if you have been infected in the past and have been fully vaccinated, people are still catching it. ..
Professor Specter explained that this is due to the simultaneous coexistence of multiple Covid variants, such as BA.2, BA.4, and BA.5.
“The main symptoms to watch out for include sore throat, stuffy nose, and a dry cough,” he said.
He added that the number of cases did not increase indefinitely, “we are already seeing a slight decrease in daily numbers.”
