Massachusetts striving to get monkeypox vaccine
Springfield, Massachusetts (WWLP) – This weekend, the World Health Organization has designated monkeypox as an international public health emergency.
That’s because global and state-level health authorities are trying to deliver vaccines to people at higher risk.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health noted that the state’s supply is in short supply, as cases have nearly doubled from 18 to 30 in this latest update.
Eleven clinics have been assigned vaccine doses by the state, two of which are located here in Springfield. Tapestry Health and Baystate Brightwood Health Center. These doses are for people who have been or are presumed to have been exposed to a rash-like disorder.
Congressman Jim McGovern said he learned from COVID-19 when it came to responding to the outbreak. He said, “When we got the vaccine, we mass-produced it and distributed it to everyone. If recommended for monkeypox, we need to do the same. We want to anticipate this.” Said.
According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, about 200,000 monkeypox vaccines have been released and 800,000 sets will be tested this summer.
