Second confirmed case of monkeypox at Ridgepoint High School in Fort Bend County
Fort Bend County – Ridgepoint High School, an ISD school in Fort Bend, confirmed a second case of monkeypox among its students on Thursday.
“It’s kind of scary. I haven’t heard much about it,” said one student.
“I have some concerns. I’m not worried enough to pull my son out of school, but I’m sure I’m worried enough to put him on hold,” said parent Abel Sanchez. rice field.
Dr. Luis Ostrosky is Director of Infectious Diseases at Memorial Hermann Hospital and UT Health. He says it’s important for his parents to talk about sexually transmitted diseases, including monkeypox.
“I think teenagers are sexually active and can pick it up that way. Transmission really requires skin-to-skin contact or very long contact in an enclosed space.
The district said it will continue to clean and disinfect all campuses to prevent infections. Some students say they are taking extra steps to protect themselves.
“My son wears a mask every day at school,” Sanchez said.
“When I’m done with something, I either use hand sanitizer or wash my hands, especially when I’m done using the restroom,” said Zasherry Mandiola.
The district said it is working with the Fort Bend County Health Department.
Doctors say it takes 21 days for the virus to disappear.
