According to a GP survey, about 25% believe that cancer referrals were often dismissed improperly during a pandemic.
During June 5-24, medeConnect asked 1003 people about Cancer Research UK’s online and regionally representative UK GP.
Variability across the UK, with up to 40% of GPs in some areas reporting what they saw as inappropriate hospital rejections, often without adequate safety measures.

Charities said the denial was likely due to lack of capacity and reduced access to diagnostic tests, but some hospitals are trying to reduce patient exposure to COVID-19 maybe.
Michelle Mitchell, CEO of Cancer Research UK, said: “I’m deeply concerned that patients suspected of having cancer are refused to be booked at the hospital after being referred by their doctor.
“The NHS says it’s open to business, but it’s still a very important message to drive the progression of the symptoms, so we know that patients get the care they need and they don’t. You need to be confident you can rest assured that it was lost on the system facing the mount backlog.”
