Health officials warn of measles risk in New Hampshire and Massachusetts – NBC Boston
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has issued a warning about possible measles infections from visitors from overseas.
According to DPH, the individual traveled to Amsterdam via Boston on public transportation on Saturday, June 22, while infectious.
DPH states that contact with this individual may have occurred at 11:40 a.m. on the Dartmouth Coach Bus Line in Hanover, New Hampshire, from Dartmouth College to Boston, Massachusetts, arriving at Logan Airport (Boston, Massachusetts) at approximately 2:40 p.m.
Then, board KLM flight 6016 from Boston to Amsterdam, departing from Gate E5 in Terminal E from 2:40 PM to 8:40 PM.
The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services also confirmed the individual was in the following areas:
- June 20-22: Dartmouth College Campus, Hanover
- June 20-22: The Hanover Inn, 2 E. Wheelock St., Hanover
- June 20, 3 p.m.: Hanover Scoops, 57 S Main Street, Hanover
- June 20-22: Lou's Restaurant and Bakery, 30 S Main Street, Hanover (one meal, date and time unknown).
According to the Ministry of Health, measles is more contagious than most other diseases.
Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes several days before a rash appears on the body.
Officials say anyone experiencing symptoms should call their health care provider before visiting an office, clinic or emergency department.
“Measles is a highly contagious airborne disease with increasing cases and outbreaks around the world,” said Surgeon General Robbie Goldstein, M.D. “Unvaccinated people are at higher risk for infection, and the best way to protect yourself against this disease is to make sure you are vaccinated.”
