Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, is a cyclical disease that occasionally rises in Ontario every two to six years.
It's a highly contagious disease that causes a persistent cough and is of most concern in infants, with 41 per cent of cases occurring in children between the ages of 10 and 14, according to Toronto Public Health (TPH).
New Brunswick health officials said last week that a whooping cough outbreak is spreading across the province, with 141 cases reported so far this year.
This is well above the state's annual average of 34.
