Winter air pollutants associated with stroke-related hospitalization, research results
A study, led by a team at the RCSI School of Medicine and Health Sciences and published in the latest edition of Cerebrovascular Disease, examined the effects of pollutants in Dublin and Coke.
The researchers analyzed daily hospitalizations for all strokes and ischemic strokes due to dwelling in Dublin or Cork, combined with air pollution level monitoring data with a 0-2 day delay from exposure.
The study focused on the two largest metropolitan areas in Ireland and the two areas with the highest density of air pollution monitoring sites.
Over the study period at the two centers, there were 15,086 stroke cases, of which 10,830 were ischemic strokes, the researchers said.
The study found no significant association between all stroke admissions and individual air pollutants, but during the winter in Dublin, all stroke cases were associated with various pollutants. I understood it.
