First batch of mosquitoes tested for West Nile positivity found
McHenry County, Illinois-Local health officials found Monday that a batch of mosquitoes from Wonder Lake tested positive for the West Nile virus. It was also found in Robin recently found in the county.

West Nile virus is transmitted to humans mainly by the Culex pipiens mosquito, which is the main vector of West Nile transmission in Illinois. - When Culex mosquitoes are the most active (dusk, dawn), limit outdoor activities and wear long-sleeved shirts and pants to enhance protection.
- Use and apply repellents according to label instructions.
- Insect repellents containing more than 20% DEET (less in children) are effective.
- Insect repellents containing oils of lemon eucalyptus or picaridine can be used in place of DEET.
- Apply repellent as per label instructions. Talk to your doctor before using repellents for infants.
