She beat the Spanish flu and now a 107-year-old woman in New Jersey beat COVID-19-News-MetroWest Daily News, Framingham, Massachusetts
ASBURY PARK, NJ — Back in May, Darlene Jasmine answered a phone that no one wanted to receive. My grandmother came down at COVID-19.
At the age of 107.
“I thought, “Oh, god, this is it,” said Jasmine. “This is going to beat her.”
It didn’t happen. Anna del Priore – 108 months shy, born in the year the Titanic sank and survived a century-old Spanish flu case – defeated the coronavirus. Not only that, she’s still on foot, walking, and even dancing. To the joy of the staff at Brighton Garden, a living support facility in New Jersey.
“People don’t believe me,” said Laura Halle, Health Coordinator of Del Priore at Brighton Gardens. “It was really wonderful to see her journey.”
Del Priore was born in Brooklyn for deaf parents teaching sign language. She was a female seamstress and her late husband Frank was a professional tango dancer.
“She always danced and loved music,” Jasmine said at age 66. “As soon as she hears the music, her feet begin to beat.”

The Brighton Gardens manager announced he had been infected with the Spanish flu during the 1918 flu pandemic around the age of six. Similar to COVID-19, the Spanish flu attacked the respiratory system, but at a much higher mortality rate.
“Is it related to her recovery?” Jasmine said Anna’s sister, 105-year-old Helen Guszone in Queens, NY, also survived both diseases.
After Anna fell ill with COVID-19, Jasmine said, “She had a fever, she didn’t eat much, but she didn’t need a ventilator. I didn’t have to send it to.”
Del Priore is now resuming normal activities such as swimming and sewing.
“I feel good,” said Dell Priore. “I thank the living God.”

Jasmine called it a “miracle,” but added that the life of a healthy choice probably helped.
“She is always moving,” Jasmine said. “We were always walking in Brooklyn-even to the grocery store and the bakery. She cooks homemade meals from scratch every night. All Mediterranean food – olive oil, vegetables, fruits, nuts. It’s like the food of an old peasant who charges you a lot.”
Del Priore has no plans to slow down.
“You will stay alive,” she said. “Dancing makes you feel good. I want to stay healthy,” he said.

A gerontology site tracking this has confirmed that two 108-year-old Americans survived the coronavirus, and seven Americans aged 107 and older survived. The world’s oldest confirmed person to have defeated the disease was a 113-year-old woman in Spain.
Ana del Priore does not count days.
“She is 108 shy in a month, getting up, combing her hair, walking and dancing,” said Halle, her healthcare coordinator. “In my life, I would say that I met and loved someone who had been successful and kept fit.”
