Des Moines pastor uses diagnosis as testimony

Pastor Tammy Harris is cancer-free after the longest journey of her life. “I feel like an overcomer. I think I'm finally in a place where I can feel good about what's next in my life,” she said. The Des Moines pastor was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2023 after a mass was detected during a routine mammogram. Harris underwent surgery and several weeks of radiation therapy, but chose to remain silent about her illness, citing cultural bias in discussing the disease within the black community. “We don't talk about things like that. This is a tragedy for us,” Harris said. According to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, black women are 38% more likely to die from breast cancer, even though they are diagnosed at the same rate as white women. “Whether you're white, Hispanic, black, Asian, or Pacific Islander, survival rates are about the same if breast cancer is detected early, but black women are more likely to die at each stage of the cancer. ” Mercywan said. General surgeon Dr. Susan Beck said: Mr. Beck is Mr. Harris' breast surgeon. “I think she has a calling. Her job is to tell women, 'I went through this,'” she said with a smile. One Sunday afternoon at Elpis Christian Fellowship, members of the congregation wore pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Harris said she no longer wants to shy away from talking about her illness to her predominantly black church members. “That's my quest to publicly share my testimony with them,” Harris said. “I'm now an advocate for this disease. I've accepted it. I've reached a point where if God allows me to have cancer, then I have a purpose.” Doctor recommend that women start getting mammograms at age 40 unless someone in their family has previously been diagnosed with breast cancer, in which case they should get tested sooner.

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
