Another raw pet food H5N1 bird flu recall. More sick cats in LA

A recall has been announced for San Jacinto-based Monarch Raw Pet Food. The company's raw poultry products are sold at several California farmers markets. This recall was conducted after H5N1 avian influenza was detected in product samples.
At least one cat in the county has tested positive for the virus after eating pet food. Four other cats living in the same household are also believed to have been infected.
Two cats died. The remaining three people have been isolated, treated and returned home.
Public health spokeswoman Becky Schlikerman Selnik said symptoms in cats “range from lethargy and respiratory symptoms (coughing and sneezing) to neurological symptoms and eye problems.”
