Peter Attwood, 84, from Chatham, Kent, died in hospital on January 30th. Just before Christmas, he became ill with a cough and fever.
While heart failure and pneumonia were first blamed for his death, coroners now confirmed that Mr. Atwood was found to have a coronavirus in his lung tissue.
His cause of death is currently listed as Covid-19.
This is believed to be Atwood’s first known death from Covid-19 outside China-just 19 days after the first reported deaths in the allegedly affected city, Wuhan. ..
The first coronavirus deaths in Britain were previously thought to have occurred on March 5.
Attwood’s daughter, Jane Buckland, told ITV News that she was convinced that the virus was the cause, and was surprised as the coroner confirmed it.
“I was shocked at first, but not the rest,” she said.
“In my mind, I already knew and told my friends and family, “I think he had this coronavirus.”
“But it wasn’t even in the country, so everyone told me, “No, I couldn’t.”
Much more needs to be done to determine if the virus is dying before it is believed to have reached the UK, 46, said. She told a Sun newspaper that Chinese officials might have hidden the outbreak.

“I think we need to know. We’re not going to change that now, but I think the family probably needs to know that their relatives and family have died.”
Ms. Buckland, who works as a full-time caregiver, also said she was worried that her father might have been infected with Covid-19 because she had suffered from symptoms such as fever and a dry cough.
She said that her older father had heart disease, and if the nature of the disease was known at the time, it would have been masked.
