Residents of Stirling urged to download Scottish protection apps to help control the virus
People in the Force Valley are being asked to download the new Protect Scotland app to control the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Free apps now available in the Apple and Google stores enhance existing Test and Protect contact trace measures and provide an additional layer of protection to break the transmission chain faster.
When the app is downloaded, it runs in the background and uses Bluetooth technology to warn you if you are within 2 meters of another coronavirus-positive app user for more than 15 minutes.
It also quickly alerts app users you have been in close contact with if you test positive, even if those contacts are not known to you.
People’s privacy is protected because the app uses an encrypted anonymous code to determine close contacts. It will be deleted after 14 days. No personal details or location is saved.
The app warns people to self-separate faster when exposed to a virus, reducing the risk of infecting others. Also, the more people who use the app, the better the functionality.
