Experts at King’s College London running the Covid Symptom Tracker app have noticed an increase in the number of users reporting unusual reactions.

They found that 9 percent of people who tested positive for the coronavirus had either a body rash or a rash on their fingers or toes.

Rashes in children are twice as frequent as in adults, and swab test rashes may be superior to fever and cough, researchers say.

Data show that the rash appears before, during, or after other Covid symptoms, and sometimes even weeks later.

The rash was also the only sign of infection in 21% of people who were positive for nasal swabs.

As a result of these findings, experts anonymously submitted images of the rash to people for further investigation.

They received a total of 3,195 photos, which were reviewed, classified, and curated by a team of senior dermatologists.

1. Hive-type rash (urticaria)

The rash can last for days or weeks.

3. Covid’s fingers and toes (chilblains)

Reddish purplish ridges on the fingers and toes, painful but usually not itchy.

This type of rash is most specific to Covid-19, is common in young people with illness, and tends to develop later.

Experts hope that they can help people and doctors to identify if an abnormal rash can be a sign of a coronavirus.

4. Pityriasis rosea

This is an acute eruption seen by a dermatologist.

Pityriasis rosea is seasonal in nature and usually occurs in autumn and winter.

It has never been proven, but its origin is believed to be viral.

This type of rash usually affects young people, but more people have reported this pattern during a pandemic.

The first large “herald” patch first appears, followed by multiple smaller patches on the torso or limbs after a few days, which can last for months before being cleared.

5. Neck and chest eczema

This rash appears on the neck and front of the chest where it is exposed to sunlight.

It is usually quite pink and very itchy. It appears at any time during or after infection and usually lasts for a long time.

6. Mouth

The lips are painful and dry and scaly as they recover.

It also causes pain in the mouth.

7. Purple

This pattern is easily recognizable because it has multiple crimson or purplish spots.

Bruise-like patches can occur.

Spots or spots are caused by damage to small, shallow blood vessels with bleeding to the skin.

8. Exanthem

This is a common pattern found in viral infections with a symmetrical rash, which includes numerous reddish stains and bumps throughout the body.

It is usually accompanied by symptoms of viral illnesses such as fever, cough, and malaise.

Patients with suspected Covid may show this pattern, but may not have other symptoms, according to experts.

“Official rash”

They are also asking the government to add the rash to the official coronavirus symptom list.

It was later added to the list after the same team reported that the user was reporting a loss of taste and smell.

Veronique Bataille, a consultant dermatologist who led Covid’s skin research, said:

“We found that one in six children develops a rash without other classic symptoms.

“In most cases, the Covid-19 rash lasts for weeks and eventually disappears. If the rash is very itchy, you may need prescribed medication.”
