A Bay Area hospital prepares for an increase in heart attacks caused by election stress
The San Jose Community Health Center convened additional staff on Tuesday to handle what doctors believe is a 15% increase in patients experiencing a series of heart problems caused by election day stress. did.
“This type of stress causes a well-proven increase in cardiovascular events,” said Dr. Paul Silka, director of the emergency room at the San Jose Community Health Center.
A 45-bed emergency room typically has 185 patients per day. Due to the election, Silka expects to have up to 210 patients.

Shilka said the emergency room at the community health center would have additional doctors, two additional nurses, and three additional staff members while the votes were being counted.
In a memo to staff about the “electionally stressful environment,” hospital managers told them to stop and wait in all hands.
“We know that (stress) can cause acute illness, especially cardiovascular events,” the memo said. “We are also prepared for increased trauma in the event of public insecurity.”
Other strategies will work, Silka advised stressed voters.
“Take a deep breath,” said the doctor. “Focus on. Don’t watch TV.”
