Update: COVID-19 has been declared at Southbridge Rose View Nursing Home
One staff member tested positive for the virus.
Thunder Bay — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at the Heritage Unit of the Southbridge Roseview Long Term Care Home on Schnia Street.
In an announcement this morning, TBDHU said one staff member at the facility tested positive for the virus.
At this time, no resident or other staff has been identified as having symptoms.
State guidelines declare a COVID-19 outbreak in a nursing home when one staff member or resident is diagnosed.
TBDHU said this low threshold allows rapid implementation of outbreak management measures, including increased infections and management practices, to curb further spread.
Among the precautionary measures taken as a result of staff’s positive test, the 24 residents of the Southbridge Roseview Heritage Unit are currently quarantined in their rooms until further notice.
A Southbridge spokesman said the facility had a dedicated room that could be used for isolation purposes.
During the quarantine period, food will be delivered directly to the residents.
Prior to the outbreak, TBDHU announced that home administrators had already taken significant steps to reduce the likelihood of a virus infection in the facility.
Monitoring swabs for all staff are scheduled every other week.
In a statement to Tbnewswatch, Southbridge also stated that Roseview staff were conducting tabletop exercises to ensure proper preparation in the event of an outbreak.
