Maplewood Nursing Home resident test positive for COVID-19 | Local News
Westmoreland — Residents of Maplewood Nursing Home tested positive for COVID-19. Cheshire County administrator Christopher Coates announced in a news release on Friday night.
This is the first positive thing among residents of county-run nursing homes.
In a telephone interview Friday evening, Coates said county officials had not yet received all the results from tests of about 300 residents and staff this week, and so far only about 100 results. Said.
He said the facility has quarantined the affected units for 14 days. This includes enhanced safety protocols and resident staying in their room.
He said the staff was assigned to a particular unit and wouldn’t move around. If someone in the unit is positive and needs to be quarantined, a specific staff member will be specially assigned to that room on each shift, further reducing the risk of infection.
“This is hard information for all of us to learn, and we believe that the precautions we have taken will help mitigate any spread,” he said in the release. “Our goal is to protect all residents and staff.”
This follows two positive tests of employees this month. Coates said on Friday that one of them chose to be retested himself and received negative results, but is the county still positive for such cases for quarantine purposes? I treat it like this.
All scheduled visits to the county-operated facility have been canceled and tested by all staff, according to Coates, until further notice. Nursing homes have contacted their families, arranged for virtual visits with residents through video conferencing, and said they would continue to work with public health authorities to help contain the virus.

Maplewood should not be outbreaking and should be more than an isolated positive. DHHS defines an outbreak as an ongoing infection within the facility.
