The community raises money for Salmon Arm girls with rare cancers
Halle Krawczyk is a star gymnast, comedian, best friend, sister, daughter, and fighter.
Halle has a rare type of cancer called chordoma that begins in the bones and spine of the base of the skull.

“It was really hard to get a diagnosis,” said Halle Krauchik12.
Less than 100,000 people suffer from chordoma each year, and less than 300 patients are diagnosed with chordoma.
“We brought her three and a half years before the diagnosis, and the doctor missed it,” said Halle’s mom Carolyn Bessette.
When Halle began taking gymnastics lessons, the family realized something was wrong. Her neck began to hurt and she regularly complained about migraines. However, the 12-year-old overcame the pain and still played at several events.
“I have a pain in my neck and it really hurts, but I always went to gymnastics even when it hurts,” Halle said.
“I’m a competitive gymnast. My favorite is the bar. I can flip on the beam, but I usually do backwalkovers, cartwheels and handstands. It’s really fun.”
The last three years of Krauchik’s life have been spent on expeditions to Vancouver and the United States to meet professionals and receive immunotherapy, chemotherapy and other treatments.
Two years ago, they went to the National Institute of Health and then to the National Cancer Institute in the United States, Matt Krouchik said.
“There is the Chordoma Foundation and she is part of the study. There are doctors who know her cancer better than anyone in the world and we do everything they want to do,” he said. .. “All of these treatments are starting to fail, so the next step is major surgery.”

After surgery to put metal in the neck, Halle may not be able to do gymnastics. Still, she has an idea of what she wants to try next after she has fully recovered.
“It would be strange and difficult because I can’t do crazy gymnastics anymore,” Halle said. “If possible, I still want to play sports, so I dance. I can’t be crazy.”
