COVID-19 vaccine to be distributed in Hudson Valley this month
Shipments of the FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine will arrive at the nursing home during Christmas week.
Nursing homes and supportive care facilities in the Hudson Valley area may begin vaccination by December 21, said CVS spokesman Joe Goode.
“We are ready to administer the COVID-19 vaccine in a long-term care facility based on an emergency license for one or more vaccine candidates,” Goode said in an email.
The state of New York has selected the federal nursing home vaccination program. The program allows CVS and Walgreens employees to vaccinate residents and care facility staff in the same way as with influenza vaccines.
According to Goode, more than 1,870 facilities across the state and more than 40,000 nationwide are affiliated with CVS. About 35,000 care facilities nationwide are working with Walgreens, according to a Walgreens corporate spokeswoman.
