Ottawa’s COVID-19 rate will rise on Saturday

Ottawa-Ottawa Public Health reports another surge in new COVID-19 cases and an increase in per capita infection rates.

From 122 new cases on Friday, an additional 133 people in Ottawa were tested positive for COVID-19, according to OPH. Due to this increase, the per capita rate for the past 7 days has exceeded 55 per 100,000 population. Estimated recalls (additional numbers for each person infected with COVID-19) also increased on Saturday.

Throughout Ontario, the state has reported record-breaking 3,363 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, And Friday 2,476. The state also reported 95 new deaths associated with COVID-19 in the last 48 hours, 51 new deaths on Friday, and 44 new deaths on Saturday.

OPH reported 631 COVID-19 activity cases on Saturday, up from 550 on Friday. A week ago, there were less than 400 known active cases in the city.

The number of cases resolved increased by 52 on Saturday to 9,161.

The number of active cases is the total number of cases confirmed in the COVID-19 laboratory minus the number of cases resolved and deaths. The case is considered resolved 14 days after the onset of known symptoms or a positive test result.

Hospitalization of Ottawa

The number of people infected with COVID-19 in Ottawa hospitals increased slightly from 11 to 12 on Friday. There are 4 to 3 people in the intensive care unit.

Of the hospitalized people, 3 are in their 20s, 1 is in their 50s (this person is in the ICU), 2 are in their 60s (both are in the ICU), 2 are in their 70s, and 3 are in their 80s. By age, one is over 90 years old.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said Over 61,000 COVID-19 tests were conducted across Ontario on Friday and over 70,000 were completed on Thursday.

The Ottawa COVID-19 Test Task Force does not provide weekend local test figures. In the latest update, the Task Force said that 5,012 lab tests were conducted on December 30, 2020, and that 1,838 cotton swabs were collected at a local evaluation center that day.

• Leeds, Glenville & Lanark District Health Unit: 5 new cases on Friday and 12 new cases on Saturday

• Renfrew County and District Health Units: One new case was deleted on Friday and one case was deleted on Saturday.

Institutional outbreak

Ottawa Public Health has reported outbreaks of COVID-19 at 30 Ottawa facilities, including long-term sanatoriums, retirement homes, day care, hospitals and schools.

New outbreaks have been declared at long-term care facilities at Carlingview Manor, Extendicare Starwood, and Royal Ottawa Place.

There are seven open community outbreaks.
