The claim that British hospitals are “empty” is false-myths have been revealed
Many videos have been posted online claiming that the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have been overstated and showing empty hospitals across the UK.
The video has received a strong response from healthcare professionals.
Sir Simon Stevens, CEO of the NHS, replied that they were “most clearly not true.”
He states: “I sneaked into a hospital in an empty corridor at 9 pm, filmed that particular corridor and pasted it on social media,” This proves that the hospital is empty. Everything is hoax, “you people Not only is it responsible for the changing behavior that can kill the nurse, but it is also an insult to the nurse returning home from 12 hours in a life-saving emergency, letting the worker take out the guts in the most severe and challenging situations.
“Nothing is more depressing than spitting out that kind of nonsense when it’s most clearly not true.”
What does the video show?
Videos distributed online are usually shot by individuals walking in a quiet hospital corridor.
These types of videos have been shot in different locations and have been viewed thousands of times online.
Some hospital buildings may appear empty due to the way hospitals were reorganized to handle Covid-19 cases and separate these patients from others, but that’s what makes them busy. It does not mean that there is none.
“Our service remains very busy”
One video, spanning three clips posted online, claimed that Croydon University Hospital was empty and the government overstated the pandemic’s influence. The video begins with a person entering the main drawing room and passing a sign that says “No entry”.
“I’ve never seen this place so empty,” commented the individual shoots.
In a statement, the hospital said: “Our service remains very busy, in contrast to the videos available online that claim to indicate that our hospital is empty.”
A spokesman for Croydon Health Services BBC: “The front door has a one-way system to reduce the social distance to and from the hospital. The video shows this person arriving through the exit.
“This video was shot overnight when the coffee shop was closed and the corridor was expected to be less crowded.”
The video shows an empty corridor, but the hospital explained in its statement: “We provide care in wards and other clinical areas. Not in corridors or waiting rooms.”
“The spread of false alarms”
At another point in the video, the photographer is roaming outside the A & E waiting room. In the video, people can be seen sitting socially apart from each other in the waiting room.
The hospital said: “For the A & E waiting area, the video shows only the entrance to the department.
“Patients carried by ambulance, or who are in serious condition or need hospitalization, are unlikely to be waiting in the area.
“Permanent myths and rumors only undermine them [NHS staff] It’s a lot of work. There is also the risk of dissemination of false information, which can endanger the health of oneself and the health of loved ones. “
“Does not represent what is happening in the hospital”
Another video posted on Twitter on the social media platform showed that people walking down the corridor of Princess Royal Hospital in Bromley claim to be “empty.”
A spokesperson for the King’s College NHS Trust said, “This corridor does not represent what is happening in the entire hospital ward, where Covid’s hospitalization has increased more than 10-fold in a month.”
Another video showed three men visiting Kidderminster Hospital in Worcestershire. In the video, they say they’re going to A & E to prove that the Covid-19 crisis is “not justified for being called a pandemic.”
After entering the building they described as A & E, they looked away at the patient and concluded that “nothing was happening” and “this is not a pandemic.”
However, the hospital in question had no A & E unit for over 20 years, and the area photographed was actually a minor injury unit, as seen on the wall sign. An NHS spokesman also confirmed that Covid-19 patients were not treated at Kidderminster Hospital.
In a statement ReutersMatthew Hopkins, Chief Executive Officer of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: The country faces the devastating effects of a pandemic every day.
“Their actions are reckless, and their agenda to deny Covid’s influence is ignorant and potentially life-threatening.
“We have a very difficult job and this kind of stupidity risks demoralizing our staff at the worst of times.”
