YRP Officer Completes 24-Hour Fundraising Training Inspired By Son With Autism Spectrum Disorder
Barrie, Ontario –Adam McEachern cares for painful muscles, joint pain, and palm crevices. He jokes that every part of his body under his forehead hurts. But he is also grateful.
Over the course of 24 hours this week, York Regional Police have pushed the body to the limit with a fitness challenge aimed at raising awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and funding Aurora’s Kelly’s Place Autism Service. It was.
Starting Thursday night, McEachern has traveled through a tough exercise circuit of 5,100 squats, 3,400 push-ups, 1,700 chin-ups and 34 miles.
This is McEuchern’s mission to train since May last year, inspired by his seven-year-old son Caleb, who was placed on the Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of three and a half.
“It wasn’t about the training itself. It was doing something very spectacular to bring awareness of autism,” McEachern told CTV News on Saturday. “I wanted to make sure that the exercise was completed and people were attracted to it and encouraged to donate.”
McEachern was aiming to raise $ 10,000. By mid-saturday afternoon The total donation was about $ 25,000.
“It’s very humble, as many people are experiencing some difficult times in the midst of a pandemic.”
McEachern admits that it was difficult to stay focused through exhausted training, but he had friends, family and colleagues to support him and share his pain.
Caleb was there and crouched with his father when he completed the challenge.
“It was very special,” McEachern said. “He is my superman.”
Kelly’s Place was part of McEachern’s journey to understand what the world would look like to Caleb. He hopes that the money he collects will help other families who need their hands.
