If more Americans do not get the COVID-19 vaccine, new variants may emerge
Health experts say that if more Americans don’t get COVID-19 shots, new variants may emerge at home-the vaccine may not be able to compete.
Infectious disease expert Dr. Sandra Kesh says the state is already struggling to dodge delta variants, and other states may follow suit.
“We can certainly see the emergence of varieties that are not only much more contagious, but also cause much more serious illness, which is devastating,” says Kesh.
Doctors are currently investigating at least two new mutants, including Delta Plus, which can be as bad as the Delta strain, and the Lambda mutation reported by the World Health Organization.
Dr. Kesh told News 12 that if 90-95% of Americans were vaccinated, COVID-19 would no longer be a problem.
“The solution is within our reach, but we’re not going to get there until there are people who are really reluctant to vaccinate,” says Kesh.
Many health professionals do not yet think that people need booster shots, but they may need them in the future.
“This is still in circulation for a long time in other parts of the world, people travel, and they will bring new variants to the state, and that’s the reality of it. The only way to really keep yourself safe. Is to get vaccinated, “says Kesh.
Dr. Kesh said catching up with booster shots will be equally important in the coming years, especially for the elderly and people with immunodeficiency.
