Mild tremors in Visakhapatnam. There were no reports of injuries

Visakhapatnam: Several parts of the coastal city recorded light tremors on Sunday morning. The National Center for Seismology said an earthquake measuring 1.8 on the Richter scale caused the earthquakes.

Tremors were reported from Peda Waltair, Akkayyapalem, Sagar Nagar, MVP Colony, One Town, Kancharapalem and other locations in and around Visakhapatnam.

Local officials said the tremors began at 7.13 am and lasted about two minutes.

People in panic ran out of their homes. Residents of high-rise apartments can be seen anxiously walking outside their homes.

One resident said that they heard a loud noise resembling an explosion, and rushed out of their homes.

Meanwhile, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Authority (GVMC) has advised people to take precautionary steps to avoid injuries.

“In the event of an earthquake like the experience, get out of homes and stay in open safe spaces. GVMC tweeted.

Police said there were no reports of injuries so far.
