Salt Lake County announces recommendations due to Omicron surge

Salt Lake County, Utah — As the Omicron subspecies prevailed, Salt Lake County reached a pre-vaccination rate comparable to that of pre-vaccination. The SLCO Health Department issued a new COVID-19 advisory on Tuesday.
The SLCO Health Department We have issued recommendations to encourage measures to reduce the spread of the virus. In it, officials state that Salt Lake County is experiencing COVID-19 infections at a rate not seen since November 2020.
In this release, we advised all individuals to:
- All medically tolerable individuals over the age of 2 wear masks in all public indoor environments.
- All individuals are at home when they are ill and undergo a COVID-19 test.
- All individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be quarantined according to current CDC guidance.
- All unvaccinated or unboosted people get eligible doses.
The advisory also includes current statistics for Salt Lake County. The Salt Lake County ICU operates at over 89% utilization. Currently, 34% of people in the hospital are there for COVID-19.
The department said that 65% of SLCO residents have not yet received boosters. 24% of SLCO residents are not vaccinated.
Omicron appears to increase the risk of infection worldwide, but Omicron cases appear to be less severe than other variants, the agency added.
