DOH adds 2,400 new COVID cases, the lowest since August | Coronavirus
The number of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continued to decline across the state on Sunday.
The Ministry of Health has enrolled 2,402 new COVID cases, the lowest since late August 2021. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Johns Hopkins University show that the number of new daily cases in Pennsylvania has declined over the past week. The number of deaths associated with coronavirus decreased by 30%, but was 48%. Hospitalization has decreased by 24%.
The 7-day rolling average for the new case peaked at 28,685 a month ago and is now at 3,538.
DOH did not add COVID-related deaths to the state-wide total on Sunday.
Locally, 29 new cases were added on Sunday, the third in four days, and less than 100 new cases occurred in four counties. There were 13 new cases in Northumberland County, 8 in Union, 6 in Snyder, and 3 in Montur. No new deaths have been registered in the valley for the second consecutive day.
Sixty-six of the 67 counties in Pennsylvania continued to see high community infections of the disease on Sunday. This means at least 100 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 7 days. Sullivan County is currently experiencing significant community expansion, with one of the 58 counties nationwide not seeing high infection rates.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 98.14 percent of counties across the country show high levels of infection. According to the CDC report, 0.78 percent (25 counties nationwide) showed low levels. High-level community infections have occurred in all 50 states.
According to the CDC, 76.1% of Pennsylvania residents over the age of 18 are fully vaccinated, and 66.5% of all Pennsylvania residents are fully vaccinated.
According to the CDC, anyone who has been vaccinated twice with the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or once with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is considered fully vaccinated.

As of noon on Sunday, there were 2,690 hospitalizations across the state, a decrease of 83 from Saturday. This is the lowest number of inpatients with COVID since November 14, 2021.
Throughout the state, there were 460 people in the intensive care unit (ICU), and 295 were breathing on ventilators.
102 patients admitted locally on Sunday were at the same level as reported on Saturday. There were 70 patients in Danville’s Gaisinger, 10 in Gaisinger Shamokin, and 22 in Lewisburg’s Evangelical Community Hospital.
Gaisinger’s main campus in Danville had 16 patients on the ICU and 13 on the ventilator. At evangelical, three patients were in the ICU and one was on mechanical ventilation.
Prisons, state facilities
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Union County had 77 prisoners active on Sunday at a security facility in Allenwood. There were no cases of active staff. At Allenwood’s US Prison (USP), there were three prisoner cases in a low security unit, two prisoner cases, three prisoner cases, and one prisoner case. Since Friday, all the numbers have been the same.
In USP-Lewisberg, there were 32 prisoner cases and 18 staff infections.
According to the State Corrections Bureau (DOC), there were 12 prisoner cases and 7 staff cases at the state correctional facility in Coal Township. There were 403 prisoners and 372 employees throughout the state.
As of Saturday, there were 7 cases among those serviced by the Serin’s Globe Center and 68 cases among the staff. At Danville State Hospital, there were cases of 5 residents and 6 staff. All reports have been flat since the end of last week.
There were less than 5 cases of staff infection in the Boys and Girls unit of the North Central Secure Treatment Unit and no cases of adolescents. All haven’t changed since Friday’s report.
