21% of eligible children in Burnaby receive a second dose of coronavirus vaccine
Second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for eligible Burnaby children aged 5 to 11 years are on the rise.
According to advances in community health vaccines by the BC Center for Disease Control (BCCDC), 21% of burnaby-eligible children aged 5 to 11 years receive a second dose of infection.
Burnaby has the second highest rate of connections between South Surrey / White Rock and Fraser Health, both second only to New Westminster (22%).
The second Fraser Health immunization rates for eligible children aged 5 to 11 years as of February 15, 2022 are as follows:

Dr. Bonnie Henry warns about children’s “long COVID”
At the state’s February 15 COVID-19 briefing, state health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry urged families to vaccinate children aged 5 to 11 years.
The 5-11 vaccine began deployment on 29 November with the first inoculation and 24 January with the second inoculation, but the intake was not as high as the health authorities had hoped. As of February 15, 55% of British Columbia children received the first dose and 17% received the second dose.
“This is not a harmless virus,” Henry said.
She warned about the unknown surrounding the children’s long COVID.
“Thankfully, it looks relatively calm to young children, but we still don’t have much insight into the long-term effects of infection on young children,” Henry said. “It’s important that we’re still trying to get information, because we still don’t fully understand the long-term effects of this virus and children’s infections with children. Must be monitored over. “
Henry urged parents who are still hesitant to vaccinate their children to consult with a medical professional about the benefits and safety of pediatric vaccines.
“It’s important. We know that vaccination is safe for that age group. Pediatric formulations are working well,” she said.
Children under the age of 5 are not yet vaccinated.

To be vaccinated, children aged 5 to 11 must first be enrolled in BC’s Get Vaccinated system. After that, a booking invitation will be sent (text or email).
