Announced recommendations for the composition of influenza vaccines for the influenza season in the northern hemisphere 2022-2023.
The World Health Organization (WHO) today announced recommendations for the viral composition of influenza vaccines for the 2022-2023 flu season. in the northern hemisphere. This was announced at an information session at the end of the 4-day Information Meeting on the composition of influenza vaccines, a meeting held twice a year.
The WHO is organizing this consultation with an advisory group of experts gathered from the WHO Cooperation Centers and WHO core regulatory laboratories to analyze influenza virus surveillance data generated by the World Influenza Surveillance and Response System. The WHO recommends that tetravalent vaccines for use in the 2022-2023 flu season. in the northern hemisphere contain the following:

- virus similar to A / Victoria / 2570/2019 (H1N1) pdm09;
- virus similar to A / Darwin / 9/2021 (H3N2);
- virus similar to B / Austria / 1359417/2021 (lineage B / Victoria); and
- virus similar to B / Phuket / 3073/2013 (B / Yamagata lineage).
Vaccines based on cell culture or recombinant
- virus similar to A / Wisconsin / 588/2019 (H1N1) pdm09;
- virus similar to A / Darwin / 6/2021 (H3N2);
- virus similar to B / Austria / 1359417/2021 (lineage B / Victoria); and
- virus similar to B / Phuket / 3073/2013 (B / Yamagata lineage).
