As the number of cases of COVID increases, Minneapolis health authorities recommend indoor masking – WCCO
Minneapolis (WCCO) — Following the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Minneapolis health leaders recommend that everyone, including vaccinated people, wear masks indoors.
The Minneapolis Health Department updated the mask guidance on Thursday stating that it should be worn in stores, theaters, schools, restaurants and offices. They also advised people to wear the perfect N95 mask and get a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot if they haven’t done so yet.

Since mid-March, the city’s seven-day new case rate has increased by 340%, and city health officials say the city’s health authorities have surged from 51 infections per 100,000 to 227 cases per 100,000. The city is currently in the “High Community Infection” category. Hospitalization is also increasing.
Minneapolis is not currently under the obligation of masks. The latest was lifted in February, following a surge in Omicron. Earlier this month, Twin Cities schools lifted their mask obligations.
The map shows the level of COVID-19 infection tracked by the CDC. With the exception of the northeast, Minnesota and western Wisconsin are the only regions with “high” infection rates marked in orange. Like Barron and Rusk counties in Wisconsin, Wabasha and Olmsted counties show high prevalence.
Weekly case rates doubled last month across the state. Hospitalizations are also increasing — just above the attention threshold.

Dr. George Morris, the doctor in charge of CentraCare, says that COVID-19 does not have the seasonality of influenza and it is difficult to predict its decline and flow.
“COVID is still different, but I think we can see the waves because we can see them. We need to be prepared, respond and accept them,” Morris said.
And health officials say coordinating our behavior between those mountains and valleys saves lives.
Olmsted County also recommends that families wear masks in public places.
