Garth Brooks comforts cancer patient at LSU concert and records earthquake reading

Garth Brooks did not disappoint over the weekend when Tiger Stadium played on the LSU campus for more than 102,000 people.

According to WDSU and others, the LSU professor set up a seismograph before the concert.

At about 9:30 p.m., as Brooks performed “Calen Baton Rouge,” the unofficial anthem of Saturday nights in Death Valley, the concert was recorded as a small earthquake thanks to a seismograph in Nicholson Hall on campus.

It is the second known time that levels have reached earthquake status.

The last time – as you may remember – was October 8, 1988, during the “Quake Game”.

LSU quarterback Tommy Hudson, down 6-0 to no. 4 Late in the game, Auburn threw a touchdown pass to Eddie Fuller that sent over 79,000 fans into a frenzy.

While few things can beat what fans witnessed Brooks’ performance of “Callin Baton Rouge,” the artist pulled his heart strings when he paused during his performance to spend time with a woman battling breast cancer. You can read more about it here, but as you can see from the posted video, the moment was not lost on fans.

Brooks has a long history of reaching out to cancer patients during his concerts.

In 2014, Brooks was performing at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, when he saw a woman in the crowd holding a sign that read, “Chemotherapy this morning. Garth tonight. Enjoy dancing.” He brought the woman on stage and gave her his guitar.

In 2017, Willie Gilmore caught Brooks’ attention during a show with a homemade sign that read, “Living with Breast Cancer, Dying to Meet Garth.”
